Pokemon Emerald Rogue Versions

You can access Emerald Rogue in two versions, which are:

  • Expanded (EX) Version

This is the creator’s recommended version. This version contains various modern improvements, such as new battle items, abilities, fairy type, physical or special split, etc. It is said to be based on RH-Hideout’s Emerald Expansion.

  • Vanilla Version

It has the standard Pokemon Emerald battle mechanics with no changes whatsoever apart from the one mentioned in the Slight feature changes in the below section.

How Does Pokemon Emerald Rogue 2.0 Work?

Let’s see how this roguelike Pokemon works! You start the adventure with random starter Pokemon and take random paths in the game while battling random Pokémon and trainers. You can upgrade your team skills with various items and moves.

During the gameplay, you might come across various paths, encounters, and interesting items, and these all depend on your progress in the game.

As you progress, the gym leaders and trainers will start using complicated and stronger Pokemon. If you can reach the champion and defeat all eight gym leaders and the Elite Four, you will complete the run.

When you complete or fail a run, you will reach the central hub, where you can buy permanent items and catch new starter Pokemon to use in the next run. After you progress in the game, more buildings and NPCs will be available for purchase that can be used for future runs.

How Long Does a Run Take?

The length of the run can vary depending on your gameplay, but according to the author’s testing, a complete run usually takes between 3-4 hours of in-game time.

Although there is a quick save option, REST, in the menu that allows you to pause the game and continue later, it doesn’t allow you to save scum.

Features of Pokemon Emerald Rogue 2.0

This fan-made Pokemon version holds a strange charm to the players due to its wide range of features, and those are:

  • Randomly chosen routes
  • Procedural items, trainers & wild encounters
  • Hub area with unlockable buildings/NPCs
  • Character customization

  • Rare legendary encounters
  • Mart contents change as you progress
  • Safari Zone allows you to capture mons you have previously used on runs and use them as the “starter” mon

Slight Feature Changes From the Base Game

  • Pickup/interaction text is an instance, i.e. you can just spam A rather than wait out the fanfare
  • Trade evolutions now just require the mon to be leveled up whilst holding the item (Link cable is used for standard trade evos)
  • Friendship or Beauty evos are now just flat-level 20 evos
  • The battle engine has been sped up (Speed varies based on the importance of the encounter)
  • Shiny rate has been drastically increased (Now it’s 1/100)
