Apple expands language support and APIs

Apple revealed the next-generation beta developer iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2. The latest beta integrated with Apple Intelligence includes advanced features.

Previously, Apple introduced iOS 18.1 which brings Writing Tools, Image Clean UP, Redesigned Siri, and article summaries to experience the upgraded level of the latest beta developer. These new features of Apple Intelligence are also available on iPadOS 15.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1.

On the other hand, the iOS 15.2 Apple Intelligence is equipped with Genmoji, Image Playground, Image Wand, Visual Intelligence, and ChatGPT integration. Apple revealed that these updates also come with APIs for three key features such as GemojiAPI, Writing Tools API, and Image Playground API. These three APIs are designed to help developers integrate generative AI into their apps.

However, Apple’s iOS 18.1 only supports US English. Meanwhile, the new iOS 18.2 extends language support to locals including Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, South African, and U.K.

In addition to expanding language localization, Apple previously announced the addition of Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese will expected to arrive next year (2025). More features are debuting that will introduced in the upcoming months.

According to a TechCrunch report, “Notably, users in both China and the EU may not get any access to Apple Intelligence features, owing to regulatory hurdles.” Hence, Apple has not officially announced any statement of when Apple Intelligence will be available for public use.
